Every summer, the streets of Boston’s North End come alive with the sights, sounds, and flavors of the traditional Italian religious feasts. These celebrations, some dating back over 100 years, honor patron saints brought to America by Italian immigrants and are a beloved tradition in the neighborhood.
Feast of Saint Joseph
Last weekend of July. Hosted by the Saint Joseph Society of Riesi, Sicily. Founded in 1925 by Sicilian immigrants. Features traditional Italian parades, street food, live music, and religious services. This feast traditionally opens the full feast season.
Fisherman’s Feast
Third weekend of August. Boston’s oldest continuously running Italian festival, begun in 1910. The legendary “Flight of the Angel” ceremony features a flying angel descending from a third-story window to meet the Madonna statue, concluding with a rainfall of confetti.
